Building Collaboration Since 2012

My name is Steve Morris and I am running for re-election to the Cabarrus County Commission.

As a Cabarrus County native, I care deeply about the future of our residents. For the past 12 years I have worked to keep taxes low, eliminate wasteful spending and aggressively recruit businesses and industry. Facilitating job creation and economic prosperity have always been two of my primary goals as a County Commissioner.

During my tenure as a commissioner, our county has seen historic growth in economic development investment. A conservative estimate of 3.5 billion dollars in economic development investment since 2012 has resulted in 25.9 million dollars in annual tax revenue. Without these investments, our property tax rate would increase from 0.74 per 100 to 0.83 per 100. On a 250,000 residence, that increase would result in $250 more in taxes for a family.

I spent many years actively involved in the Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce as I believe in a vibrant business community here in Cabarrus County. I served on the Board of Directors for numerous years including one year as Chairman of the Board. In 2011, I was also honored to be named the Citizen of the Year by the Chamber, and I frequently have the privilege to speak with the graduates of the Chamber’s Leadership Cabarrus program.

I am your friend, neighbor, and fellow Cabarrus County resident. We all want servant leadership from our elected leaders and I believe that is what is needed in these times. I want the best for our community, our children, and our future. Please support me as I dedicate my service to ensuring I keep the promises I have articulated.

Please look over my website and feel free to contact me if you have any questions. If you would like to host an event or want me to visit please let me know.

I wanted to take a few minutes today to address the news about the SBI investigation. I had been waiting until I had sufficient information about the investigation to make any public comments, but I have still not been contacted by the SBI and therefore wanted to go ahead and share some comments.

First and foremost, I am grateful for the outpouring of support I have received from this community. It certainly reminds me why I consistently put myself out there for re-election, and it is because this community is worth fighting for. However, I also want people to know that I will not let politically motivated efforts to undermine my reputation deter me from continuing to serve this community.

This is a video of the statement I read at the most recent Board of Commissioners Regular Meeting on May 15, 2023, that summarizes my thoughts on where things stand. Should you want to reach out to me with any questions or concerns, I welcome you to do so at smmorrisnc@gmail.com.
